Humilis

humilis

Definition

A species of cumulus with a flattened shape, greater in width than in height, whose tops are relatively flat or only slightly domed. It is the smallest and lowest form of the cumulus genus.

Field note

Cumulus humilis means the convection is shallow and the sub-cloud layer is dry enough that nothing is reaching the condensation level with much energy. It is the visual signature of fair weather.
